Joel J. Heidelbaugh, MD: I'm Dr. Joel Heidelbaugh, and I'm a clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Michigan. I wanted to provide a quick review of my session "Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: An Evidence-Based Update."

In this session, I discussed an evidence-based approach to the diagnostic and treatment options for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, or GERD. I reviewed the alarm signs and symptoms and extraesophageal manifestations of GERD, and I worked to differentiate between GERD and dyspepsia as well as other related disorders, including potential complications of advanced GERD disease. I reviewed current diagnostic and treatment guidelines for H. pylori and discussed potential risks of over-utilization of anti-secretory therapy. Lastly, I presented a novel therapeutic class for treatment of GERD and erosive esophagitis.

So, if you would like to know more, please make sure that you will check out my session. Thank you very much, and please let us know if you have any questions.
