ACIP: 2018 Vaccination Schedule for Adults

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has issued a new 2018 recommended immunization schedule for adults aged 19 years or older.

The 2018 immunization schedule was first approved by the ACIP in October 2017 and became effective in February 2018. It provides recommendations and contraindications for routinely recommended vaccines for adults based on age, medical conditions, and other indications.

The new schedule, which was also approved by the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and others, specifically includes changes to herpes zoster (HZ) and measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination.

It provides clinical guidance regarding the use of the recently approved recombinant zoster vaccine for the prevention of HZ, as well as a recommendation for a third dose of the MMR vaccine in certain high-risk groups.
