According to the National Institutes of Health’s Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections Among HIV-Exposed and HIV-Infected Children, discontinuation of antibiotic prophylaxis is recommended for HIV-infected children receiving antibiotics for the purpose of primary or secondary prophylaxis of serious bacterial infections once they have achieved sustained immune reconstitution for how long?
Better luck next time
Children who are younger than 6 years old are considered to have sustained immune reconstitution if they have a CD4 T lymphocyte (CD4) cell percentage of 25% or more. Children who are aged 6 years or older have sustained immune reconstitution if they have a CD4 percentage of 20% or more and a CD4 count greater than 350 cells/mm.
