CDC: More Measles Cases in 2019 So Far Than In All of 2018

More cases of measles have been reported during the first 3 months of 2019 than in all of 2018, according to the CDC.

From January 1 to March 28, 2019, 387 confirmed cases of measles have been reported in 15 states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas, and Washington.

“This is the second-greatest number of cases reported in the US since measles was eliminated in 2000,” the CDC reported. The greatest number of cases were seen in 2014 (667).

Six of the outbreaks are currently ongoing, located in New York City and Rockland County, NY; Santa Cruz and Butte counties, CA; Washington State; and New Jersey.

“These outbreaks are linked to travelers who brought measles back from other countries such as Israel, Ukraine, and the Philippines, where large measles outbreaks are occurring,” the CDC wrote.
