Among the changes since last year:
- Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists are preferred over insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes who require injectable drugs.
- Routine glucose self-monitoring is of limited added benefit to patients who do not use insulin.
- A patient’s 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk should be included as part of their overall risk assessment.
- Water consumption should be emphasized, while consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages should be discouraged.
The full recommendations were published in Diabetes Care.
