Fordyce Glands

By Joe Monroe, PA-C

A 38-year-old man was concerned that the small lesions on his lips were flat warts. A biopsy identified Fordyce, or sebaceous, glands of the lips. Fordyce glands differ from warts in that they are numerous, have a yellowish white appearance, and are seen on the mucosal surface and vermilion of the lips. The glands are benign and require no treatment. (Case and photograph courtesy of Joe Monroe, PA-C.)
