A Useful Front Office Checklist for Your Practice

It’s Monday morning and you arrive 15 minutes before you are to see patients. You walk into the reception area (not waiting room!) and see that it is disheveled; you look into the patient restroom and there are no paper towels; and you walk into the exam rooms and find that the rooms are missing paper covers on the exam tables. Clearly, your office is not ready and prepared to see patients in a productive and efficient fashion. What can be done to correct this situation? Just like doctors need checklists in the operating room to be sure that the doctor is operating on the right patient, doing the right procedure, and the appropriate equipment is present in the operating room, the same should be done in the office setting. A checklist is effective in making the office ready first thing in the morning and in making sure that the office is ready to be closed in the afternoon. I have used the checklist shown above, and I confidently walk into the office on Monday, or any other day, and find it always ready and prepared to see patients.
